Had stayed away from this trail for a couple of years, due to the terrible road conditions. Decided to try again anyway, as it's a beautiful hike to a lovely lake. The road is still dreadful - 45 minutes to an hour of avoiding washouts, rocks, and massive potholes. We did it in a Subaru outback, and did see several 'sedan' type cars making their way up. On a positive note, the old shooting ranges near the bottom of the road are now 'closed', and the mess was much less than in past years. Once on the trail, it was lovely - a few bugs, but the bug-spray kept them away. Lots of mushrooms popped up after the recent rains, ripe blue berries in the meadow. We took advantage of the sun, and had a dip in the lake - cold, but so beautiful. On our way out we saw a pair of men's hiking boots sitting lonely in the parking lot.
