This was supposed to be a birding trip to Point No Point. Yesterday's eBird reports were amazing. 5,000 Phalaropes (its a shorebird, google it). And a Parasitic Jaeger. I haven't seen one of those since I was on the north slope of the Brooks range in AK. Caught the first ferry out of Edmonds. Had a fabulous breakfast at the Farmhouse and got to the Point with the sun still low in the sky. I was bummed when what I saw was a line of shore casters all along the beach lined up at 20 yard intervals. And not a single bird. I was 26 hours too late. No salmon season in August. It ain't August any more and every guy with a rod and reel was trying to make up for lost time. Pretty spot. We will be back, hopefully with less fishermen. As an alternative we visited this trail. Low country alder and young fir forest. A couple of lakes working at becoming meadows. Nicely graded trail. Lots of foot grabbing roots. It will be nice to combine this with some birding. The trail will be good any time of year. The trail is shared with horses, but didn't seem to be a lot.
