Trip Report

Barnum Point — Sunday, Sep. 15, 2019

Puget Sound and Islands > Whidbey Island

Needed an escape and noticed the forecast in stanwood seemed to let up a bit, so I decided to head out to Barnum Point to see if I could spot the Great Horned Owl.

Nice trails throughout the park, no major mud issues even after all the rain.   I was one of 2 cars in the parking lot.

No Great Horned, but seems a curious barred owl (possibly a young adult) has moved in to the territory.   Heard it soliciting calls as I was packing up my car to leave...And captured a few photos.

Did you find this trip report helpful?

Yes, we do have Barred Owls on Camano. Good photo of this one. There are Barred Owls on the Camano Ridge trail also, but they are difficult to find.
Happy trails,
Geezerhiker

Barred owls seem to be just about everywhere. I frequently find them in parks in the Kirkland area.
