Hiked in on the Mesatchee Creek Trail about 2 miles until we reached the American River. There is no bridge and to continue on you need to ford the river. We weren't feeling very ambitious (and hungry) so we took a lunch break and then returned the way we had come. Wildflowers are past their prime but the mushrooms are popping up everywhere. Met a couple of other hikers that were collecting mushrooms (Tamarack Jacks) and a couple on horses. Everyone had dogs that played well together. This section of the trail is fairly level and an enjoyable hike.
