This was on my list of fall overnighters to try last year, but I waited too long and was snowed out! Eager to check it out this year, I was a little early but not disappointed. Some larches were yellow near the top but you could see the rest were on the cusp of turning. Another week or two and they'll be perfect. Ground cover colors were fantastic.
We went with two humans and two dogs. Lots of day hikers for Maple Pass Loop across the highway were parked at this trailhead. Annoying, but nothing we could do about it. At least the foot traffic here wasn't so bad--we ran into a handful of other overnight backpackers, lots of day hikers, and I suspect a few PCT thru-hikers.
A few creek and stream crossings, but all very passable.
