Pend Oreille County Park — Friday, Aug. 30, 2019

Eastern Washington > Spokane Area/Coeur d'Alene

I decided to try the trails at Pend Oreille County Park.   My hike started after noon at the equestrian trail parking lot.   The parking lot had been just graded & enlarged and is a short drive in from Hwy 2. I hiked the the Big Sky Loop.  The trail tread was great, but the trail is heavily over grown.  Due to rain the morning of my hike, i was very wet from the waist down by the time i completed the hike.  I hiked the loop clockwise, the grade up to the viewpoint is easy.  A bench at the viewpoint. makes a great place to enjoy the view towards Mt Spokane.    The trail past the viewpoint traverses several switchbacks, and was in good condition.   The on-line description of this area is on the Pend Oreille County website, and states that the trails are not well signed.   Improved signage on these trails would greatly improve the hiking experience.  Over all this was a great afternoon hike.
