Sun Top Snowshoe — Saturday, Sep. 28, 2019

Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410
Sun Top Snowshoe by Hannah.mgray

Overall, trail was wonderful. Came up here for sunrise, it was beautiful but the Rangers in the lookout did not offer coffee. It was very cold. Bear grass was all dead.
On the drive up, we encountered washboard roads and average-sized boulders. Tight corners-beware! No service on the way up, and be careful if you drive stick not to shift past 2nd!
Bathrooms were clean, hand sanitizer was provided. No light, so if you are up here early or late bring your own! If you are sensitive to smells, bring essential oils.
Lookout was occupied by rangers, and there were three cars camped up by the bathrooms overnight. Snow started falling at 7:12 AM. It was a beautiful sight, but the mountain remained hidden by the clouds until after we left. Beautiful hike!
