Trip Report

Iverson Spit — Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019

Puget Sound and Islands > Seattle-Tacoma Area
Baker

I have been recovering from eye surgery, but today was a good day and decided to get out and be a little active. Mt. Baker was out and the tide was in, as opposed to my last trip report. There were a few other walkers, several with dogs.

Wintering ducks are starting to gather. I did not hear (or see) a loon today, but the spotted towhees were back. Juncos were also quite active. I walked along the dike, then back to where the forest trail joined the dike (it seemed a little too muddy the loop way). Walked to the bridge, then back to the Hobbit Trail and explored this. This path was muddier, with walkways over standing water. it was a worthwhile diversion, however, feeling like an enchanted forest.

I am so glad this short trail is close by - I have enjoyed it each time and plan on doing so again soon! On the way out, a heron was fishing in one of the waterways. Wonderful day!
