Artist Point Snowshoe — Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019

North Cascades > Mount Baker Area

Forecast said some clouds, then some snow showers. It was pea soup. Still fun taking a buddy from Australia. Pretty straight forward hike, as long as you stayed on the boot pack you wouldn't post hole. It was only about a foot deep at the top anyways. Wore spikes from the parking lot.

Wow, looks like you had a great time! I’ve been wanting to snowshoe Artist Point for so long, thanks for the update. I’ve heard avalanches can be a threat on this trail which has made me very nervous to try it as I’m usually alone. Did you guys feel safe out there?

There is almost no avalanche risk on this hike. Just follow the main boot pack and don't go out there if NWAC says it's considerate or high risk. https://www.nwac.us/ and you should have nothing to worry about. There is a small snow field near the top that you could possibly have issues navigating if it was a white out and snowing (which I have been in there). Just make sure you download the map of the area first and a fully charged phone.
