Trip Report

Goat Peak Lookout — Thursday, Jun. 23, 2022

North Cascades > Methow/Sawtooth

Went up to the lookout for the first time to watch the sunset! Views are as spectacular as everyone claims it to be.

There are a few downed trees at the start of the trail but they are easy to cross over/bypass. As of June 23 the trail was quite muddy from the snow melt, starting around 6000’, and snow started around 6200’. It is intermittent but most of the uphill sections of the trail from 6200’ to the lookout are still snow covered. Snow was mostly firm in the evening and traction wasn’t needed, but poles were useful. The snow was a couple feet deep in the deepest sections. Lots of steps though, so navigation was easy and postholing was minimal; not sure if postholing would’ve been worse during the heat of the day.
