Arrived at the TH at 8:30, only five cars in the lot. The first creek after the Granite Mtn junction has a lot of water, be careful crossing. Intermittent snow after the Talapus Lake junction, nothing serious but just be careful of the snow bridges. At Pratt Lake junction, continued on Trail 1009 to Island Lake. Trail is in good shape until after the high point, where it descends down into Island Lake basin. About a quarter mile from the lake, I stopped and turned back where the first photo is taken. I probably could have continued, but the snowpack was over a boulder field and I didn't want to risk punching through and a possible injury. Headed back up to the Pratt Lake junction and descended that trail about a half mile for a snack break, where the second picture is taken. Some snow over the trail, nothing too serious. I couldn't tell if the snow increased or decreased further into the basin. Headed back from there, with a very cold bearbath in the big creek which were perfect for my legs. About 25 cars in the lot at noon.
