Japanese Gulch — Saturday, Jul. 2, 2022

Puget Sound and Islands > Seattle-Tacoma Area
the creek in Japanese Gulch

Walked the Japanese Gulch trails Saturday morning.  Had planned to park at Edgewater Beach park and walk up, but that was packed with folks fishing/crabbing so ended up in the informal gravel lot east of Mukilteo Ln at Mt Baker Ave.  There is a sanican at Edgewater, no facilities at the gravel lot.  The trails are brushy and a bit rough, especially the western most bit, but nothing unusual or impassable.  There are a fair number of mosquitos out now as well in the gulch area.

Quite a bit of wildlife out, woodpeckers, sparrow, a bald eagle, heron, some seal/sealion (couldn’t tell which) off the beach.  A fair amount of rail traffic this morning as well if you are into such things, though nothing up the steep Boeing Access line that parallels the walking trails.  A nice little walk with lots to see.

some of the trails parallel the super steep Boeing access rail line - 5.7%, steepest in the state
