Mount Rainier Area > NW - Carbon River/Mowich
Summit Lake by breaks

Happy the road is now snow free to Summit Lake TH. It’s bumpy, but otherwise fine. Last half mile or so is brushy - if you’re in a full size truck/suv, expect to get some pinstripes.

Trail is in good shape. A little snow as you approach Twin Lakes. I first considered going to Bearhead, but there’s snow as far down as the turn off at the lake. I went a little ways up the carbon trail, but turned back as I wasn’t up for hours of soft snow walking. If you want to keep going, there is flagging and it’s certainly doable.

Up to Summit Lake there’s quite a bit of snow for the last bit - it’s soft, so spikes don’t do much for you. Recommend poles and patience.

I took the loop CCW around the lake taking in all the viewpoints. Lake mostly frozen still, but starting to that out. The campsites up there are melted out, so could overnight if you wanted. Had a leftover burger from the 4th at the big overlook.

Saw a fair amount of people as I descended back to the TH.
