I climbed Mt. Adams via the South “Summer” Route this past weekend (July 30-31, 2022). It was glorious. And also ridiculously hot. Two guys in our party were so smoked that they turned back at Lunch Counter. Frankly, I'm not sure they were drinking enough water and consuming enough calories. I drank close to 3 liters just getting up to Lunch Counter. Make sure you are consuming some kind of simple carbohydrate and salt. It's very easy to get dehydrated and ruin your climb - especially in 95+ degree heat. Another word of warning: on the return trip, if I were to do things differently, I would avoid coming back down the Crescent Glacier, especially in the middle of the day when the snow is soft. There are no visible crevasses, which you do have to worry about. And the glissade chute is so deep that rocks are exposed. I tried to climb down and get in the glissade chute to just below where the rocks are, but nearly lost my footing on the steep slope of the glacier. It was pretty dicey. I blame low blood sugar for my lapse in judgement. I documented our trip in a vlog - check out the video.
