Surprise and Glacier Lakes — Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2022

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West

BCRT for women Aug 3- Aug 7.

On the way to the lake, overgrown berry bushes made a little hard to see the trail. Be careful to not trip over rocks sticking out from the side of trail.  It is not necessary but very helpful to have trekking pole.  I also recommend mosquito net and bug spray.  Wear loose long sleeve clothes helped preventing mosquito bite.

We cleared the most of the fallen trees on the trail around Surprise lake shores. I heard it was caused by Avalanche about 2 years ago.  Direct path to the Glacier lake was hard to locate from Surprise Lake trail due to multiple fallen trees covered the way, and we did not clear those trees but we completed brushing. At least you can see the trail under the those trees. The crew also fixed the fallen trail sign near the toilet, so it is easier to find it.

Those trees were cleared by the crews during this BCRT

You trail folks are wonderful! Thank you.
Been putting this hike off due to the major size of the avalanche debris. Don't bend, crawl, scramble, and climb as well as I used to.

KNOCKS on Surprise and Glacier Lakes

Thank you for your comment. You don't have to crawl or scramble to Surprise Lake anymore but if you take lower trail to go to Glacier Lake, you may need a little crawl or climb over fallen trees. It is not bad. If you take high side of trail to Glacier Lake, it is all clear, but this is more uphill.
Enjoy!
