Drove to Harts Pass with the help of a friend after leaving our car at Rainy Pass and stayed the night in one of the 5 spots at Harts Pass on Wednesday.
Started hike south on PCT on Thursday morning and hiked to Brush Creek for the first night. There is not much water between Harts Pass and Brush Creek (15 miles) so beware.
Hiked from Brush Creek to Snowy Lakes for second night and enjoyed the lakes and views. This is a lovely spot to camp and was relatively empty for a Friday night. PCT hikers go straight on by as they head north - determined to get their 30+ miles days in. 9 mile day. Bugs were bad here though so be warned to bring a net and/or clothes to protect yourself while enjoying the view.
Last day of hike over Granite pass and Cutthroat Pass and then out to the trailhead was filled with amazing views, lots of trail runners/day hikers, and a bit of exposure on trail (if you don't like trails that drop off - then this isn't for you), and some amazing views.. already said that but worth saying again. In fact, I will probably come back several times in the future just to come up to Cutthroat Pass as a day hike. Wow!
Highly recommend this backpack if you can make it work and meeting/chatting with PCT hikers determined in their final stage of their through hikes makes for inspiration and appreciation of their efforts.
Oh.. this place must be amazing when the Larch turn yellow. They are everywhere.
