Trip Report

Umtanum Creek Canyon — Monday, Sep. 5, 2022

Central Washington > Yakima

I took my daughter and husband to Umtanum Creek to scout for a possible backpacking trip with my Girl Scout troop. The trail started out OK but we quickly found that it was hard to navigate because of so much brush and high grasses. The trail was unclear and difficult to follow. There were several places where the brush was so close it was scratching our arms and faces. Please come service this trail, WTA!

It gets brushy after a mile if you don't cross the creek at that point but if you do the trail is easy to follow on the other side. After another mile or so the trail again crosses the creek.

If you cross the creek at the right place early on, the trail is easy to follow. I used my ALLTRAILS map the trail was very distinct.

Also doubt anyone will service this trail for awhile as we are anxiously awaiting the regrowth from fire damage a few years back. It was a stunning trail in the fall before then! I hope she continues to be just as beautiful.
