We parked at the Prairie Overlook trailhead next to the Jacob Ebey House (open 10 to 4pm) Thursday-Sunday before Labor Day. Lots of learning and history here; you can even get your passport stamped. Not sure you need a Discover Pass here as it is jointly managed by the National Park and State Park services. We did the full loop, gaining elevation on the ridge first and then descending to the beach for a mid-hike snack. Great views, lots of birds! You may want to keep kids close on the ridge. There was a nice breeze for us.
Our full trip lasted about noon to five, pretty casual hiking. Lots to explore in the sand and additional play in the driftwood forts.
