Trip Report

Tolmie Peak Lookout - Eunice Lake — Sunday, Sep. 18, 2022

Mount Rainier Area > NW - Carbon River/Mowich
Mowich Lake, beginning of the hike close to the campground

This is the second time I've done this trail and it's just one of those ones you want to keep coming back to. Despite the 30 minutes or so on the forest service road, it's 100% worth it. The road doesn't have too many potholes, but can be bumpy and is super dusty.

Parking lot was full both times I did this hike, but there is plenty of parking down the road. In fact, you can start this trail either at the parking lot/Mowich Lake campground, OR down the street before the parking lot there are several entrances to the trail as well. So even if you park far from the parking lot, you're still close to the trailhead :)

I prefer to start from the Mowich Lake campground though. This way you can walk around Mowich Lake and take in those beautiful views. There are also bathrooms at the campground if needed.

Both Mowich Lake and Eunice Lake seem like wonderful lakes for swimming. The trail was pretty crowded, but everyone was so friendly and enjoying the day. Lookout is closed, but you can look inside and can walk around the porch.

View of the lookout from Eunice Lake, it's a hike up but not as bad as it looks
