We hiked around the pond, up the creek 5 miles, and 1/3 mile up towards Alaska Lake to a nice view of a colorful mountain side (photo 1). The fall colors have only just begun (a wild guess is the best colors are 10 days away or so). The best colors now are in the avalanche-cleared areas (photo 2). There are still many visual treats along the way, photos 3 and 4.

How were the blowdowns and brush that others mentioned earlier in the season? Do you have any sense of trail conditions beyond the 1/3 mi from the turnoff to the lake? Thanks for your report.

The brush and the blowdowns remain the same, no maintenance has been done. I know from reports that the bootpath gets more difficult as it progresses, but I've never been up there.

I went up to Alaska today. It was lovely. I recommend it, though it is steep and at times, bouldery. Brush and blowdowns seemed less worse than I expected given the summer reports.
