Nolte State Park — Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022

Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410

I've been trying to go to more state parks because they are perfect for my 4 year old - usually easier trails, with some amenities. This was a perfect mommy and daughter day. There's a playground right at the entrance (to the left of the parking lot), so we started out on the playground. We then did the 1.4 mile walk around the lake. My daughter loved stomping on the leaves, pointing out all the roots, and taking some of the little side trails down to the lake.

We saw some people with strollers - the trail is mostly flat but there are a couple of (small) hills. The trail has some roots and rocks but they are pretty avoidable, and as long as you have a good stroller this is doable with one. We also saw a few people on paddle boards and one person fishing.

There are lots of benches along the walk and plenty of picnic tables at the entrance by the lake. I'm not sure this is worth the drive from the Seattle area if you're just wanting a hike, but for families it's a great little walk and park.

Try Kanasket Palmer just down the road. Lots of things to explore in that state park for a little one
