Fremont Lookout — Friday, Oct. 7, 2022

Mount Rainier Area > NE - Sunrise/White River
Mount Rainier at its Least Amount of Haze in the Morning

When we arrived at the parking lot it was about a third or less full. The Sunrise Day Lodge is closed for the winter. The restrooms are still open but there is no water for the sinks and no potable water in the area.

We started up at about 1045. Anywhere there was dirt was very dusty. Brown boots turned to grey and if you are wearing shorts, a dirt tan on your legs. The temperature was in the upper sixties but there was a slight breeze all day which made hiking quite comfortable. Mount Rainier didn't have any clouds to obscure the view but it was in a haze that got thicker as the day progressed. Once we got to the lookout the haze and smoke was very thick to the north.

It appeared that most people went up the lookout trail so there was quite a bit of foot traffic but everyone was pleasant and considerate, and of course, no dogs.

As others have mentioned, expect delays on the road due to work being done on Hwy-410. There three areas being worked on and at a couple of them we waited 10-20 minutes before we could move on. That was both coming in the morning and going back in late afternoon.
