The larches were definitely beyond peak, a few golden, some brown, some bare. Some huckleberry color but also beyond peak. If you can arrive from the east I would highly recommend. Driving through Newhalem and past Diablo Lake was awful. Smoke was thick and dark. With windows closed and air on recirculate, my throat and eyes were still burning. It was still a decent day in the mountains.
