We only did the first half of the hike, past all 3 lookouts but not too much further -- we were breaking trail at that point. glucas' report was pretty thorough and still applies (well, I removed one of the trees blocking the trail). The snow was very wet, the kind that compacts hard under your feet and will stick to microspikes, so we wound up not using ours for much of the hike, though there are parts where traction would be very helpful for most people. We saw a bobcat by the river, which was pretty cool. It was a delightful hike with surprisingly few people for a nice Sunday
