Tarzan Butte — Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023

Snoqualmie Region > Salmon La Sac/Teanaway

Best thing about the Teanaway is that you can be alone on the weekdays. We parked at 29 Pines campground. We started up Jungle Creek, until we crossed the NF Teanaway and hit the turnoff up Rye Creek, where there are no snowmobiles allowed. There were no tracks of any kind (except animal) up this road, which really surprised me. It looked like everyone was staying on the road heading up Jungle Creek.

It's mostly uphill for 2 1/2miles up Rye Creek Road, then we left the road and headed straight up Tarzan Butte, which is pretty steep. There were many downed trees, because of the fire a few years ago, so even though everything's buried under the snow, there was a lot of climbing over the covered logs and had to be careful not to step in the sink holes. No tracks, so we made our own. Did I mention it was pretty steep?

6.1 miles, 1800’

Cloudy on top, though things cleared a bit and we caught glimpses of Stuart and the Teanaway valley. Got back to the car just as it was getting dark. We saw zero people. We always love the Teanaway area!
