After years of trying different snowshoeing spots along I-90, my friend and I decided we didn't want to bother with avalanche danger, inclement weather at the pass or snowshoes.
Enter Mount Si.
After an uncharacteristically late 2pm start time (we built our morning around a visit to Rio Bravo), we jaunted up to the summit in just under 2 hours.
Rain gear, good boots and a pair micro spikes are a must. The snow line starts about 3 miles in, so about a mile from the summit. Spikes aren't necessary until about .3 miles from the summit.
If that sounds exact, it's because there's a sign .3 miles from the summit that roughly corresponds with the snow transitioning from slush to hardpack. We slipped on our spikes here and I'd recommend anyone reading do the same.
The summit itself has snow drifts. Nothing crazy. They're less than a foot deep, but again, spikes will aid you greatly.
Got back to the TH a bit before 5:30pm, narrowly avoiding the need for headlamps. Though by then it was incredibly dark, wet and cold.
Helpful hint: if you forget your discover pass (like us) they can be purchased in town at Ace Hardware
Public service announcement: Rio Bravo is the best food in North Bend
