Explorer Falls — Friday, Feb. 3, 2023

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway
Explorer Falls by miomio143

First time hiking from the new trailhead. Based off previous trip reports and google maps calculations, the trail is about 6 miles round trip, maybe just a little under. The “trail” is mostly gravel road, with gentle ups and downs. It was cloudy and windy today so I didn’t get to see any views really of the surrounding mountains.
It was easy enough to find the falls as I’ve been many times before via the old route, but it was still helpful to verify on google maps that I was taking the correct turns. I have the falls location pinned on my maps.
If you want the exact location of the falls off the trail/road, it’s:
47.980453, -121.847808
Just a little spur trail to your left when you get to that coordinate. It started raining on the way back which sucked when in addition to the wind because it was blowing sideways pretty hard. The road is pretty exposed in the clearcut areas and doesn’t have good tree cover the rest of the way.
All in all, glad I got out despite the weather. I left the trailhead at 11:50 and got back at 1:30, so clocked just about 1 hour 40 minutes. Only spent about 5 min at the falls.

I have included a shot of the route I followed today
