The trail starts on Warren Road SW near Warrenville on the Kitsap Peninsula. About five cars can squeeze into the dirt parking lot. The trails are short so cars are not parked for long.
To get maximum hiking mileage, we went down (yes downhill then coming back is uphill) on the left or south part of the preserve. The trail can be a bit steep at times but it is dry and lovely in here. Once we came to the main trail, the trail that goes out to the water, all changed. There was one huge mud hole and several smaller ones. After the large mud hole, is where you can access the beach if you dare. There is one small hillside to crawl down on slippery clay soil. I went down and quickly sank an inch or so on my boots in vegetation. The tide was out. Most everyone had sneakers on and didn't venture down including my friend. Someone out a rope in a tree to pull yourself back up and maybe not get your clothes muddy.
To make a loop, we went up the north side of the park. This way is shorter and not as steep but the trail is not as nice. At the bottom was again, mud then toward the top was the loud traffic from NW Anderson Hill Road.
Making the entire loop was about 1.5 miles with 220' gain. It still was a nice park especially since we have never been here before.
