I'm a little late posting this (life has a way of delaying things) but here ya go...
I managed to score a 5 day Core permit for the 2nd week in August. The weather was perfect for the 4 of us. I had a friend from Ohio who flew out for this trip. Due to the incompetence of airlines, his original flight was canceled, but managed to get a later flight. That put us into Leavenworth just before Midnight. Luckily we had another member of our gang drove over from Idaho and secured our campsite for the night.
We were up at 5:30 and dropped our other car off at the Snow Lakes TH. We hit the trail about 7 am. A little chilly but not bad. There is way to much to write about trek so I have posted a video and some pictures of the best time I have had hiking. We had rain, electrical storms, my son was chased by a goat while peeing and then the goats stalked him for a couple days, sunny weather, bug bites, cuts, scrapes, sore everything and a little chafing, but worth every second.
I hiked this back in the 70's when I was a strapping young lad and the trail was not as rocky and rooted out. At 64 it was a bit more difficult than I remembered. This is not a trail for the faint of heart but well worth the struggles and pain. If you ever have a chance to hike this you must jump on the chance.
