Early wildflowers were out in abundance, including grass widows, desert parsley, yellow bells, shooting star, glacier lily. Delighted by two male bluebirds in full breeding colors. Windy at the top.
One access for this trail is from the Memaloose rest stop on the eastbound highway. Don't go to the Memaloose State Park or to the rest stop on the westbound highway.
Memaloose Island got its name from the term “Memaloose illahee” which, roughly translated, means graveyard or tomb in the Chinook language.It refers to the burial island in the Columbia River nearby.
