After a long day of hiking I couldn't stop myself from hiking yet even more. I stared out on the MapleValley trail which is in pretty decent shape. Like it's been for a few years some of the boardwalk has some holes in it, but it's still sturdy. I took the Rhody cutoff to head back towards the campground. Just after you start up the trail there is a tree down, which also blocks the next switchback. the tree is actually fallen at the second switchback, and people have cut the switchback to get to the actual trail. There are also some handrails that are failing, and need to be replaced. I decided to take the trail back to the new loop of the campground (the old group camp area) only to see a sign at the bottom on the hill that the trail is closed. I did not see any signs at the top which someone may have taken down? I then headed to the beach trail cause, why not? I didn't hike over 13 miles already.... And the campground (Where I was camping for the night) was noisy with people playing beer pong.... I saw a few (three) trilliums blooming, and some bleeding hearts on the Rhody cutoff trail.
I took the beach trail thinking there was a bench at the top of the look out. the trail is in pretty good condition. there are a few spots where it could benefit from some more gravel since you can tell it's a lower spot and people have started walking in the marsh/ grasslands to avoid getting their feet wet. I thoroughly enjoys my time alone at the look out platform. you head hear the distant sounds of cars passing on highway 101, the canal's tide coming in with the soft sound of the waves, and the bird. Oh the birds were singing their evening songs. It was so peaceful with no one else around.
Until next time- Happy Trails
