I joined WTA for a work party here yesterday. During my many visits to Cape Disappointment, I had never hiked this trail. It’s just across the road from the campground, which is usually crowded, yet it feels somewhat hidden. Although there are no great views, there is some impressive old-growth. The trail was nice and shady on this unseasonably hot day. I will keep this in mind for a short morning or evening hike when I’m in the area.
Our crew worked on rebuilding some stairs (see photo) on a particularly mucky section of the trail. There are still some muddy and somewhat washed-out sections of the trail to be worked on later, but overall, I would say the trail is in good condition, although I would strongly recommend hiking boots. Despite the unusually warm temperatures, we got a lot of work done and had a great time!
