I have a bit of snow on the top section. For now, we still need to use the winter route. The lower part of the trail is in great shape.

That's not the "winter route" you're referring to. Common misconception, though. The real winter route avoids crossing all the avalanche chutes. so, you don't take the normal route long. I refer to that final section as the boulder ridge. And, yes, makes sense, that's safer and better than the final 20-30 min on the full summer route, now - it's steeper and holds more snow, longer.
