Ingalls Creek — Sunday, May. 21, 2023

Central Cascades > Blewett Pass

So Many Wildflowers! I was blown away by the number and variety of flowers just in the first mile. And butterflies! The trail is in great shape. A fun ramble along a raging ”creek”. We saw kayakers launch near the parking area.
No dogs allowed, it is in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. Leave Fido home so you don’t have to disappoint them.
Just find another dog allowed hike.

Dogs are allowed in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness in general. Some places like the areas Ingalls Lake and the Enchantments don’t allow dogs, but they’re the exception, not the norm: https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5407053.pdf .

Dogs ARE allowed on this trail. I have actually taken my dog here on a backpacking trip—and I have seen many others do the same. It is Lake Ingalls where dogs are not allowed—but that is a completely different trail.

As an FYI, dogs are allowed on most all trails in Alpine Lakes Wilderness in Washington. Exceptions are the Enchantments Permit Area and Lake Ingalls. You can confirm this by reading the wilderness regulation rules for the Okanogan Wenatchee National Forest on the US Forest Service Page.

Happy hiking!

Huh. The wilderness permit I filled out had a big bold “dogs prohibited “ on the bottom part where you fill in the number of people/stock/dogs. It was a green form (notable because they have been white in the past). I noticed and said something because I LOVE hiking with my dog and won’t be bringing him here.

The wilderness permit may have said dogs not allowed, but unless they’ve changed it in the last couple months, they’re allowed. They may be using the permit they have for other sections of the ALW. I’ve taken my dogs here many times. Feel free to bring yours.

Intrigued by this comment thread because I'm considering heading out this weekend with my dog, I called the Cle Elum ranger district to inquire and they said dogs are allowed on this particular trail (Ingalls Creek Trail #1215). Hope that is helpful for folks!

Dogs are indeed allowed here, just not in the Enchantment zone or Ingalls Lake area of the Alpine Lakes wilderness.
