Ran to Shellrock Peak with my adventure dog Max. 9 miles on the nose and 2600’ elevation gain/loss. The road was snow free with most of the trees cleared. Easily passable by RAV4. Had to drive down into a ditch right near the trailhead to get around a downed tree, but no sweat.
The trail is in great shape mostly. A few gullies from melt off and hard to see in spots as there hasn’t been much traffic yet (saw no one else at all today).
One large snowfield to cross exactly 2 miles in at Burnt Mountain, but not difficult even with soft snow.
As always, it was hard to find the summit/ridge trail but it did help to see tracks in the intermittent snow leading to that trail from the main trail. Summit trail required zero snow travel.
Beautiful panoramic views from the top on this warm, windless Memorial Day. Life doesn’t get much better!
