Trip Report

Shi Shi Beach and Point of the Arches — Saturday, May. 27, 2023

Olympic Peninsula > Pacific Coast
Boardwalk on the trail

Two passes needed. Makah recreational permit can be purchased in Neah Bay. We picked ours up at the mini-mart, the main store no longer sells them. Backpacking permit was purchased online and printed. Headed out to the trailhead to drop off 3 people and backpacking gear. Returned to park in the private lot. Cost is $10 per day or $20 for overnight. Walked back to the trailhead and headed down. Trailhead has 2 pit potties and a large dumpster. Only 1 big tree obstructing the trail, root ball is exposed, tree is tipped over. Several smaller trees over the trail/leaning over the trail. The latter part of the trail is muddy before the stairs to go down to the beach. Social trail is very well traveled/established to get out the sloppy parts. Weekend was overcast, but luckily no rain. Ranger Katie was visiting checking for permits and bear canisters.  Petroleum Creek was ok for water source. Water tasted flowery. Had a great time with bonfires and tide pooling.

Largest of the down trees with wood plank to get around
