While doing the Auto Tour, we stopping to walk the Observation Blind Trail (very short), and the Kiwa Trail (1.5-mile loop).

Road Conditions. Well-maintained, flat, wide gravel road. Toilets as well as pamphlets and audio CDs for the tour were available at a self-service booth near the entrance.

Trail Conditions. Flat and well-maintained.

Highlights. Plentiful birds, along with several deer, and a pair of pond turtles.

Bug Status. Some mosquitoes at the Kiva trailhead, but a breeze kept them grounded while we were walking.

Crowds. Several other parties were doing the auto tour between 5 and 6pm, but didn't encounter anyone on the trails.
