Second Beach — Thursday, Jul. 6, 2023

Second Beach Sunset Sunstar www.mikereidphotography.com

Decided to head out to Second Beach, a favorite destination of mine when the tide is low at sunset.  It was set to be around 3 feet at 10pm and this was good enough for me.

I was going against the holiday traffic crossing at Edmonds/Kingston.  The line to head West was several miles long.  I got to Forks in about 4 hours, mindful of the many changes in speed limits along the way.  I had set up a hotel room in Forks at the place I usually stay at and checked in early because I was going to be out late.

The Third Beach trailhead was busy, as was the Second Beach parking lot.  I parked next to a massive Jeep Wagoneer, with a big decal proclaiming You're Following a Photographer...  I figured he/she would get broken into first so I was safe.

The trail was in great shape, dry and clean.  The route down to the beach takes about a half hour and empties onto the beach near the privy.  Several campers had camps set up nearby.  Your best bet for solitude is to head South.

I started to the south and moved towards the "Weeping Lady" timing to be there at sunset.  I made a video just watching the surf come and go for memories.

Things were good until some locals showed up and proceeded to set up very large and very loud rockets.  Why they chose this beach vs First Beach which is much easier to get at, no idea.
