It was a relatively easy day-hike in store for us today. The trailhead (easy to access from Interstate 90) was full at 10:45, but we only had an additional 1/4 mile hike in from a parking spot on the side of the road.
The hike is well-described here; the middle section caused some good huffing-and-puffing, but wasn't too difficult to overcome. It was a warm day -- the non-shade sections (of which there are very few) were toasty!
The trail was, indeed, busy. We encountered several backpackers headed back down the trail and many open spots at the lake on Saturday, which was surprising.
At the lake, several hikers were swimming, but I can not vouch for whether the temperature was freezing or just merely chilly.
We encountered a WTA crew in the first mile or so of the hike, thank you for your hard work!
