This is a great training hike to get your hiking legs in shape. It has a fairly steady elevation gain and is easy to get a nice pace going.
The avalanche lilies and mountain heather are on their way out.
I turned right at the saddle and explored the unmaintained trails. I stayed right instead of going down the traverse. This eventually opens up into scree fields and tarns. The little creeks from melting snow make for a pleasant soundtrack in this section. The mosquitos came out an hour before sunset but my bug spray and layers kept me from getting a single bite.
The main tarn in this area is full but will start to dry out soon.
The view of Mt. Adams on the back side of the saddle is an extra treat.
I saw a large male mountain goat on the way out and got to sign as a witness for a couple who got married up there.

Great photos...interesting how the trees are slowly closing in on the view.
