The air was crystal clear when my party of seven set out on our hike. We had to cross multiple snowfields, a few quite sketchy due to their steep incline; if a hiker slipped, she might have slid hundreds of feet down into rocks. None of us used microspikes or YakTraks. We didn't make it all the way to the end, but stopped at the ridge with 360-degree views of Baker and Shuksan and North and Central Cascades. On our return trip, the snow was softer and less treacherous. After a couple more weeks of snow melt, this trail should be easier and faster to navigate.

Some sections of this trail do not melt even till October. In 2019 someone slipped on snow patch and broke her ankle and backcountry rescue was needed to help her.
