What a perfect day for a truly fun hike. I was nervous about hiking the PCT on a nice, weekend day - apropos of that, the parking lot was full at 7:30 (squeezed into one of the last spots). But after that, it didn’t impact the day. It’s not a hike for solitude, but there’s plenty of space to spread out, and everyone was fantastic and happy, and there’s something wonderful about that, too.
A few downed trees to climb under or over. Not a big deal. Streams still have a bit of water if you have a pup who wants to cool its feet. Had a stare down with an angry marmot in one of the rock fields (thankful for the leashed pup, who desperately wanted to make a new friend).
Bugs were out, but not a big deal. A bit of an annoyance at the rock field, but not as bad at the Katwalk.
Views east and west and of Rainier for a large chunk of the trip down. The hike itself is steady. Nothing steep, no trouble with route finding. Just turn on the diesel and go!
