Trip Report

Eldorado Peak — Saturday, Jul. 1, 2023

North Cascades > North Cascades Highway - Hwy 20

Went for a C2C on Eldo on July 1. This is a fairly well documented trail, so won't provide too many details.. a lot of this trip report is to share some B&W film photos I took along the trail that a couple people asked about as I was coming down :)

Permits / Parking

Big lot to park & you can camp there overnight. I slept in my car, but easy option to park a little back and camp in front of the car. National park permit required for parking; overnight permit required for backpacking (hence the C2C).

Trail Conditions: Water Crossing

We spent a decent amount of time looking for a "solution" to wading across the stream... but end of the day just wore some sandals and walked across the water. I could have sworn I had heard of people finding logs across the stream, but I think that's a waste of time given how quickly you can wade across.

Trail Conditions: Other

Trail is in good condition considering what it is. Climbers trail, so overgrown in places, lots of blowdowns, obviously a big boulder field... but again it's a climber's trail so to be expected.

We roped up as soon as we got onto the glacier as we all wanted some rope team practice, but we were among the only groups that were roped up that we saw. Though obviously you should rope up!

Knife edge was in great condition; just the right amount of knife edge to feel exposure but not feel any danger. Summit block was great.

Overall

Started around 3am and finished around 6pm, but took it quite slow at times. Overall was about 9 miles and 7200 ft of vert.
