The road was in great shape and there weren't many people at the trailhead at 10am on this misty Saturday. The dog and I walked the 2.7 miles to Marten Creek and headed up to the left. The trail was in OK condition and easy enough to follow, especially with the trail markers mentioned a few trip reports ago.
The trail gets steeper and steeper as you go up, and towards the top is basically a scramble through trees climbing effectively straight up. It's a bit grueling. On my way down, a couple was debating giving up and asked me how much farther. I said 1000 feet as the crow flies and that it was worth it. But they were not having a good time!
The lake was great. What cool views and rocks. We had the place basically ourselves for an hour, as the party ahead of us left as we arrived and the next party was arriving as we left. Very nice and isolated.
It was useful to have OsmAnd+ with the specific GPS track of the map but probably would be doable without it.
