We parked at the small lot indicated by the WTA directions which is across the road from a sign indicating the Naches Loop. But starting here is considered counter clockwise and will leave Rainier at your back. We instead walked down past Tipsoo and followed the well maintained trail clockwise. For convenience, park at the large paved lot with a bathroom and access the trail there.
Along the way, the wildflowers and butterflies put on a show. We stopped at a clear lake for lunch. We marveled at shimmering Dewey Lake from afar, though there appears to be a trail down to it. And we finished off the last stretch with a nice view of Rainier.
The bugs were persistent but tolerable.
