Mount Rainier Area > NE - Sunrise/White River
Mt Rainier peeking through the fog

I took the day off for a solo birthday hike and decided to check this one out due to previous reports of it being a clear trail and seemed easy enough to get to. The road was rough, mostly rocky and some potholes to watch out for. It was a slow drive the last few miles. Overall, This hike was great, a good mix of leg burner but flat meadows to recoup. The trail is clear and easy to follow. Autumn colors are just starting. It rained all night so it was a peaceful, drippy hike through the old growth. I enjoyed dramatic misty scenery, when I got to the top, the mountain peeked through the breaks of fog. There is an infestation of grasshoppers in the meadow, sometimes hundreds jumping around me!  I only saw one other group on the way down so I had the whole place to myself. What a great day!
