I heard report of whales passing by Whidbey Island on Friday, so I knew I’d have to make my way there over the weekend.
We started just south of Fort Casey SP where my friend’s husband spotted the whales. No whales, but we did see dozens of people fishing along the beach and in the short time we were there, we heard hoots and hollers from a number of people reeling in salmon.
We headed over to the SP and enjoyed lunch on the bluff with excellent vantage point for whale watching. We spotted a harbor seal but no whales.
Next stop was Ebey’s Landing. We stayed on the beach, which is always a good choice for rock hounds. We saw a huge sea lion. Actually, it looked bigger than any sea lion I’ve ever seen but I can’t think of what else it could be.
Our last stop was Rosario Head at Deception Pass SP. just a beautiful walk in the park but no whales today.
I was amazed that it wasn’t too crowded today. For a holiday weekend, we didn’t have any trouble with parking or crowds.
