My partner and I decided on this hike as an overnighter for our 30th birthday (yes, we have the same birthday). It turned out to be an excellent choice.
Having hiked this trail before, I was expecting it to be a zoo in a sunny fall Saturday. Surprisingly, it was not! We hardly saw anyone on trail and only 1 other party was camped at the pass.
There are plenty of great campsites at the pass. The latches are just turning golden and the fall foliage is stunning.
Be aware if spending the night that Porcupine Creek is the last reliable water source. We each brought up 4 liters and that was more than enough for 1 night.
