Cutthroat Lake — Saturday, Sep. 30, 2023

North Cascades > North Cascades Highway - Hwy 20
Cutthroat Lake

The larches are popping near the lake and the fall colors are beautiful! We'd planned to hike Maple Pass, but that trailhead was overflowing and we decided to continue down the road and do this hike instead. The short road to the trailhead has some broken pavement at the beginning, but turns into a good gravel road and we made it just fine in our low clearance campervan. We needed to park a little ways from the trailhead, but it wasn't bad. The trail is well maintained and easy for kids and dogs. There was some mud near the lake and one very shallow creek crossing. After the lake, we thought we'd go a ways on the trail to Cutthroat Pass, but the bridge was broken and partially repaired with a caution sign posted, so we decided to skip it and just head back the way we came.
