Trip Report

Alpine Lookout — Sunday, Sep. 24, 2023

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - East
Alpine Lookout

The road to trailhead was in fairly good shape. The parking area is fairly small; our groups two cars were the only cars on a Sunday morning, arriving around  8:30 a.m. There is a trailhead sign and kiosk and a outhouse at the trailhead.

The Round Mountain Trail switchbacks up to a nice ridge with beautiful views fairly quickly. Continued on this trail until it intersects with the Nason Ridge Trail (note that motorized vehicles are allowed on this section of the trail. We did have one dirt biker pass us, but he slowed down as he came by and didn't "dust" us). The intersection is well-signed. Turn left to continue on to the Lookout. Right before the Nason Ridge Trail drops down, there is a sign directing up the steep boot path to the lookout.

The lookout sits on a ridge with views in all directions. The lookout was locked. We had lunch on the ridge and enjoyed the views. If you continue down the wide ridge you will come to a "patio" of rocks which we figured out are a helicopter landing area. There is a weather/scientific station of some type further down the ridge.

A pit toilet is also accessed down the path towards the weather station. The wooden platform is partially collapsed so I don't recommend putting much weight on it if you use it.

We hung out for quite awhile enjoying the views before heading back down. Beautiful Fall foliage was every prettier going down.

View from the old burn just before hitting the ridge...
Valley to the east and hazy fire smoke...
